Happy World Photography Day!

19 Aug

Today a friend wished me “Happy World Photography Day” and I was quite intrigued. So naturally, I consulted Google. As it turns out, there’s a website, Facebook fan page and tons of followers!

I’m a big fan of their simple mission: “World Photography Day is all about celebrating photography and remembering how special a photograph can be. Today, we take our photographs for granted… remember that there was once a time when photography didn’t exist. A time when those precious moments couldn’t be captured, uploaded and shared. On August 19th, celebrate photography and share your world with the world!”

Pinhole Pro Summer Tour

2 Aug

The Pinhole Pro Summer Tour, which started way up north in Maine, is finishing up this week in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I learned about it a few days ago and met up with Katherine and Eloise today to check out their beautiful products and learn more about sharing Pinhole Press’s calendars, albums, brag books, postcards, photo pads and much more, with my clients.

If you’re not familiar with Pinhole Pro check out their website. Jenna and I found them at WPPI this year and I was immediately drawn to their classic, modern designs and the simple but genius idea: Client-generated royalties.

How does it work, you ask?

Clients gain premium access on Pinhole Press through their photographer’s account-based link, and choose from a variety of gorgeous products they can create on their own. Everything is high-quality, environmentally-friendly and ships fast! I think of it as the alternative to places like Kodak Gallery and Shutterfly. It has the great style and quality that your clients want, makes you money, and saves the time and labor having to sell, design, order, pack and ship.

Pretty cool, right?

Pinhole Pro has an excellent Community section on their website to support photographers in getting the word out, including media downloads that let you drop in your own images to showcase their products, as well as videos, contests and more.

The Pinhole Pro ladies hit Philadelphia!

If you’re in the PA/NJ area and would like to meet with Katherine and Eloise, learn more, see the products first-hand and maybe even get a surprise… just email and request a visit! You can also take a peak at the Summer Tour page to see where they’ve been and who they’ve met!

PS: Many of their products are already featured online, including How’s that for street cred?

We’re BACK!

24 Feb

Betties return from Vegas!

It’s back to the east coast for the Betties who attended WPPI – and we’ve got so much to share! To say that the tradeshow and conference was phenomenal would be a gross understatement – with amazing speakers, classes, new products and enthusiastic photogs everywhere, it was truly a remarkable experience.

Although we had hoped to update posts real-time on all that was happening, we ran into major snafoos with internet at the Signature Grand so we’ve compiled our thoughts on the experience and plan to roll it out on the blog in the coming weeks!

Be on the lookout for:

  • Betties sharing their personal experiences
  • Hot product reviews from the tradeshow floor
  • Snappy Hour recap – Vegas Style!
  • Tips to live by on work/life balance, creativity and business/marketing

So stick around as we decompress and reflect upon one of the most exciting trips in the world of photography!

Tech Tuesday: Treat Your Computer Right

    11 Jan

It’s time to think about our computers. Often neglected, they are expected to churn out tons of work, keep track of everything and serve as a mighty stronghold for our photos… but where’s the love? Computers need TLC too!

It’s easy to let it go by the wayside, but you inevitably pay the price. Either frantically spending hours to fix problems – when it’s not convenient – or worse, watch as it loses steam, catches a nasty virus, or [dare we say it] crashes and burns with no backups. But good news! The fantastic people over at Lifehacker have a plan:

    Back Up Automatically
Secure Your Computer and Your Life Online
    Run Regular Maintenance
    Create a Tidy, Attractive Desktop

These tips for securing, cleaning, and backing up – are detailed and packaged neatly in a simple guide to staying on track in 2011 on their site. Check it out and treat your computer with some respect!
