Are you a morning or evening person? I sleep 4 hours a night…poorly at that. I’m a workaholic. I’m a mom. I’m a wife. All those things combined make me an all day person.

Coffee or tea? Coffee. Straight up coffee with a hint of cream and a ton of sugar. From my Wonder Woman mug.

Something that’s overrated: Twitter and Facebook. Really, I don’t need to know what you’re doing

Something that’s underrated: Hand written thank you notes and paying it forward. Both things go a very long way.

What was the last thing you ate in 2010? A cupcake. I was shooting a wedding and shoved a cupcake down my throat right before the new year rang. I also rang in the new year by eating a second cupcake. They were good. 🙂

Website/blog(s) you visit daily: It’s more an app than it is a website…Paprika. Everyone in this house always wants to know what’s for dinner.

Who is the photographer that inspires you most? The person with a simple point and shoot that thrives on capturing the everyday for future generations. Those that document milestones. Those that preserve history. Those that see the world through a lens and capture a slice of life. Those are the people, nay photographers, that inspire me.

Tell us about your very first shoot: I was lured into wedding photography with the promise of cake. I was not (EVER!) a wedding person. Mike and I eloped and I was thrilled with that decision. So, at first, when I was asked to accompany a photographer friend (who hated weddings, thereby solidifying my feelings for weddings — bridezillas and their crazy moms, so I thought), I laughed and said, “uh…NO!” But she lured me with sweet confection and the promise of buttercream. And so I went…to document the wedding of a gorgeous bride and a handsome groom, to celebrate this momentous day with their amazing families and ultra fabulous friends…at the Lake House Inn. Despite the monsoon on the crazy May afternoon and all of the plans changing and the hustle and bustle…that bride was radiant and happy and grateful. Nothing could have ruined her day. I was completely humbled to be a part of it. And as I watched the whole thing unfold through my viewfinder something crazy happened…I fell in love with wedding photography. The next morning, feeling the sorest I’ve ever felt, completely exhausted, I turned to Mike and said, “I’m going to be a wedding photographer.”  Three years later, while on Facebook one morning, I ran across the profile of that bride and sent her the most heartfelt thank you note I’ve ever sent to anyone…thanking her for changing my life in more ways than she could have ever thought of. The bestest part? Her profile picture is a picture from their wedding day that I took.

Oh…and her cake? Totally boss!

What is the one thing in your bag you would throw yourself in front of a speeding train for? The picture of my mom that’s always with me. It’s the only one in existence. It means more to me than anything in the camera bag. It’s my constant reminder of why I do what I do. And yeah, I know…make a copy of it already, Isabel!

I am passionate about: My family. My husband…my kids…even our bird. I’m passionate about leaving a record of our time here on Earth.

To tweet or not to tweet: Puhlleeezzee…I tweet because I feel I have to.

What are the top 5 things on your “photographer’s wish list”? A bigger office space. A caught up “to do” list. Time. That’s it…only three.

What do you find most difficult about being a photographer? What do you find most rewarding? The most difficult things is finding the perfect shoes to shoot in all day. The most rewarding is by far getting to know my couples and being a part of the day that marks the beginning of their family. Oh…and being home to watch my kids grow up is pretty stellar, too. I missed that for way too many years.
